One
of our preferred ways to begin working together with a forest landowner is to
prepare a written forest management plan. The
plan will organize your efforts to focus on objectives with the greatest
priority. Þ
Plans
are prepared by our Certified Plan Writer.
We
recommend that a plan address all the forest’s resources such as :
Þ
Production
of high quality forest products (logs)
Þ
Improving
forest health using timber stand improvement techniques and controlling invasive
species
Þ
Promotion
of future forests by tending to natural regeneration and/or tree planting
Þ
Establish
or maintain healthy plant communities and diversify wildlife habitats
Þ
Recreational
enjoyment by the forest’s users for hunting, hiking and viewing wildlife
Þ
Wise
management for endangered plants and animals
Þ
Protection
of water and soil components
Collectively,
when we consider all these resources and how they naturally interact we are
trying to manage the forest from an ecosystems perspective.
When
a forest management plan is prepared by us it can qualify as an entry into
either :

A plan under the FSP or DNR MFL will qualify the landowner for cost sharing
through the Wisconsin Forest Landowner Grant Program.
This cost sharing can help pay for the plan and also make other types of
cost sharing available, such as, tree planting and wildlife habitat enhancement.
We recommend that you review all aspects of the Forest Stewardship
Program and DNR Managed Forest Law before an entry is made.
Our forester will be glad to provide details.
