harvesting schedules, wildlife considerations, assessment of soil and water resources,
timber stand improvement activities, e.g., thinning, pruning, tree planting,
etc., recreational enhancement, assessment of endangered plants and animals, optional
enrollment in the DNR’s Managed Forest Tax Law (reduces property tax on
woodland) or Forest Stewardship
Program. Certified Plan

TIMBER SALES
ADMINISTRATION - We will select, mark
and scale all trees for harvest according to sound forest management principles
and landowner personal objectives. Marked
trees are sold by competitive bidding (70 - 100 timber buyers contacted).
Timber bids are lump sum with full
payment before logging operations begin.
Timber sale contract and logging inspections included.
TIMBER
APPRAISAL -
Establishes estimated value of standing timber (present or future).
Utilized for : real estate sales, determining taxable income, timber sale feasibility.
COST
BASIS ESTABLISHMENT - Analysis of
property's assets as of their date of purchase. Determines the fair market value
of all assets. Involves a timber
cruise to calculate the volume and value of all trees when purchased.
Used for determining taxable income from sales of forest products over
time. Produces a document showing logical proof to IRS of how you calculated
your tax deduction. Note : Cost
Basis document is meant to be used in conjunction with the clients certified
public accountant. No tax counseling
is intended.
TIMBER THEFT AND/OR
LOGGING DAMAGE ASSESSMENT -
For situations when trees have been cut without permission or damaged
either intentionally or unintentionally. Evaluates
individual trees and includes damage to the site and clean up requirements.
Often used to settle claims with insurance companies or leads to expert
witness testimony.
CROP TREE RELEASE
(TSI) – Crop trees are selected and
crowns released from adjacent competing lower quality trees.
Improves growth, tree form and quality of younger trees by selective
thinning. Regulates species
composition to ensure a future stand of more desirable timber.
Greatly reduces time required to grow merchantable timber.
Can be modified to enhance wildlife habitats and aesthetics.
SITE PREPARATION FOR NATURAL REGENERATION (TSI)
- Conducted before or shortly after a harvest. Eliminates all undesirable
trees greater than 2” dbh which allows for full sunlight to release
existing desirable regeneration or enhance the opportunity for development of
Oak regeneration. In turn new growth occurs more rapidly and a higher percentage
of desirable trees is achieved. Site
productivity is maximized.
INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROL -
When a woodlot contains invasive species, e.g., garlic mustard, buckthorn, honey
suckle the ability of desirable plants to reproduce can be severely impeded.
Seedling tree growth and wildlife habitat often fall prey to invasive
species. Identifying, making a plan
and implementing the plan to control invasive species is a critical step towards
accomplishing long term forest management objectives.
WILDLIFE HABITAT
IMPROVEMENT - Combines Crop Tree
Release and/or Site Preparation for Natural Regeneration, and/or tree planting
to achieve greater diversity of habitats and thereby enhancing wildlife
populations on your property.
